Step by step guide to the UKCA and UKNI new product conformity marking

As part of a programme of engagement work, the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is conducting to raise awareness about the UK’s new regulatory regime for manufactured goods to ensure that overseas businesses can continue to place goods on the UK market.

The UK’s new product conformity marking, the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking is the new product marking that will be required for goods being placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) from 1 January 2023.

UKCA Marking

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking is the new product marking which demonstrates that certain goods are compliant with UK regulations and is used when these goods are placed on the market in Great Britain (GB).

It covers all goods which previously required the CE marking and aerosol containers (which previously required the reverse epsilon marking). It does not apply to existing stock, such as goods which were fully manufactured, CE marked and placed on the market before 1 January 2023. Please download the explanatory UKCA guide to learn more.

UKNI Marking

The UKNI marking is a new conformity marking for products placed on the market in Northern Ireland (NI) which have undergone mandatory third party conformity assessment by a body based in the UK. It is always applied with the CE marking.

The guidance below explains how to use the marking and the changes to conformity assessment.
